Bioluminescent Bio-Orb (Large)

Regular price $79.00 $59.00 Sale

The Large Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is spectacular when swirled at night.  The natural light produced by the PyroDinos (living algae) in the Bio-Orb is called bioluminescence.

The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is an interactive night light, air purifier, objet d'art, conversation starter and science lesson all in one classic glass sphere.  The Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is a 15cm glass micro-aquarium filled with bioluminescent plant-plankton (algae).  Easy to care for, like a house plant, the Bio-Orb will produce natural light at night (bioluminescence) when gently swirled.  The Bio-Orb will also remove CO2 and other airborne toxins during the daytime while replenishing fresh oxygen for your room environment.

The Large Bioluminescent Bio-Orb is the biggest Bio-Orb available and will light up naturally, night after night, with minimal care.  The Bio-Orb requires moderate daytime lighting (artificial or natural light).  The living PyroDinos in the Bio-Orb are natural marine plankton (algae) that are found in oceans all over the world.  These plankton utilize light to grow (like a plant) and they light up at NIGHT when gently swirled or moved.

Bio-Orbs are similar to indoor plants that clean the air and remove toxins.  The Bio-Orb pulls CO2 and other toxins out of the air and produces fresh oxygen.

What’s included
  • One six-inch (15cm) diameter glass sphere (flat bottom)
  • Two pouches of PyroDinos dinoflagellates 14oz (400ml)

Instructions

Remove the caps from PyroDino pouches.  Holding over a sink, pour entire contents of PyroDino pouches into the large Bio-Orb.  Place large Bio-Orb in a moderately lighted area.  Wait five to seven days before feeding with DinoNutrients.   PyroDinos require daily light and moderate temperatures to survive.

bio-orb-instructions

PyroDinos will only light up at NIGHT, in the dark when gently swirled. PyroDino will NOT light up during Daytime hours!

    Happy with purchase

Arrived so quickly and already glowing and happy on arrival. My last orb died but these have arrived already seemingly sturdier and plentiful, fingers crossed theyll last ages. Saw them on a beach in the middle of nowhere once and blew my mind- they carry such beautiful memories of that trip, fab! Bought a second one for a friend with similar nostalgic memories.

    Excellent!

I had had a few of these spheres before from another company, and these are definitely brighter and healthier. I think it is the larger glove allowing for more air in the bowl.

    Still Glowing

The orb (and dinos) arrived fast and well. The culture was dense and looked healthy, However, after I transferd them into the Orb, the water became turbid after some days. The dinos seem smaller than before and there is some debris floating around, I think. Still glowing so far, though.

    Culture was dead on arrival

As reference, I have a PhD in microbiology and experience cultivating Pyrocystis specifically. This culture had no bioluminescence when it arrived. I have since been keeping them in a cool space with plenty of indirect sunlight, hoping they were tired from their journey but would recover. It's been about 2 weeks so at this point, I have given up on them. I looked at them under the microscope, and there are plenty of dinoflagellate cells in there, but sadly they must have died in transit. It's not surprising given their sensitivity to heat and the fact that the package was warm when it arrives. Disappointed that I spent $60 on this.

Laura, Someone will contact you about a free replacement. All of our live PyroDinos are guaranteed for 30 days due to the variability in shipping conditions, which is difficult to control. Shipping during the heat of summer can be challenging.

As brilliant as it looks on the site

Bought these impulsively after watching a David Attenborough show about 'life that glows'. Due to a DHL Express delivery mix up they took 7 days to arrive in Belgium but were still alive and even glowing slightly on the first night. 1 Week later and they are thriving in their orb! They look exactly like they do on the website - no special effects or filters used - truly beautiful in the dark
